OUR STORY

THIS WAS NEVER
JUST ABOUT SWIMMING.

SWIMBLK was created to change the relationship Black communities have with water—one swimmer, one experience and one city at a time.

IT STARTED WITH A SIMPLE REALIZATION.

SWIMBLK began with a personal realization: learning to swim as an adult changes the way you see the water.

Growing up, formal swim instruction was never part of the experience. There was comfort around water, but not true swim confidence.

Learning later in life revealed something much bigger—how many Black adults had similar stories. Some were never taught. Some had limited access to swim instruction. Others carried fear, discomfort, or difficult experiences connected to water.

SWIMBLK was created from that realization: our community deserved a different kind of swim experience.

THIS IS BIGGER THAN US.

64%

of Black adults have limited or no swimming ability.

Behind every statistic are people who were not given the same access, exposure, or opportunities around water.

SWIMBLK exists to help change that.

WE CREATED THE SPACE WE WANTED TO SEE.

REPRESENTATION MATTERS.
Seeing instructors and swimmers who look like you changes what feels possible.

COMMUNITY MATTERS.
Learning something vulnerable feels different when you are surrounded by people rooting for you.

HOW YOU LEARN MATTERS.
Fear is not something to be embarrassed about. We meet swimmers where they are.

ACCESS MATTERS.
Our pop-up model allows SWIMBLK to bring swim experiences into different communities instead of expecting everyone to come to us.

THE FUTURE OF SWIMBLK

We’re building a future where finding culturally connected aquatic experiences, instructors, and community is easier—and where swimming feels like something that belongs to us, too.

MORE REPRESENTATION.

MORE CITIES.

MORE SWIMMERS.

MORE OF US IN THE WATER.

THE WATER
BELONGS TO US, TOO.

Whether you’re learning for the first time, returning after years away, or helping someone else find their confidence—you belong here.

Swimming is for the CULTURE.
